Lockdown may have closed our community spaces but it didn’t stop us!

The temporary closure of our community spaces in March left many individuals at risk of loneliness and isolation. As a charity, this is something we actively work against, so we very quickly adapted our services to include the Sunshine Project – so that no one felt alone!
This involved weekly Sunshine Calls made by staff and volunteers, to our older adult service users. These phone calls were designed to offer companionship and a listening ear, the next best thing to catching up in our community spaces! We also sent out Sunshine Packs, which were little surprise parcels containing a variety of items such as chocolates, soaps, handmade crafts and individual feel good letters from children.
The project aimed to brighten people’s day and was a HUGE success – we were able to spread sunshine over 1,500 times during the lockdown period!!
As well as the Sunshine Project we have offered FREE online zoom activities, such as group reiki and one-on-one crystal therapy sessions.
The response to these sessions has been excellent, with the one-on-one sessions continually being snapped up, and the group reiki session having many regulars and new people joining each week!
Not only are these sessions free to the over 60s, but – for the first time – we were able to expand our services regardless of location! Meaning that anyone over 60, anywhere, can take part.
We advertise these sessions through our social media channels, as well as emailing everyone who has signed up to our mailing list.
If you are over 60 and would like to take part – or if you know anyone who would be interested – please email us for more information, or fill in the contact form on this page.
This will add you to our database and allow us to keep you updated, via email, with our offerings and other news.
We shall continue to offer online group sessions, as we are currently unable to hold group activities in our community spaces.
